CK Tech is a Billings, Montana, low-voltage and security company. We've been installing the systems that keep homes, businesses, and job sites running for 15 years. The company started as CK Communications in 2008 and adopted the CK Tech name in 2012, when Craig expanded the work from IT and audio to full security and integration.
Craig Kahnke,
Founder and CEO
Craig grew up in Winnett, Montana, graduated from high school with eleven classmates, ninety miles north of Billings, and served four years in the Air Force as a spy-plane mechanic. He got into the security industry as a technician for Brinks Home Security, then moved back to Montana and worked for Kenco Security & Technology, Big Sky Communications, Security First, Vann's, Best Buy, and Newtek Solutions before starting his own company in 2008. Craig holds two degrees from Montana State University, an AAS in Network Support and a BAS in Business, along with certifications in security, IT, automation, and home audio. After more than two decades in this trade, Craig still runs walk-throughs and consultation calls every week.
Libby Kahnke,
President
Libby grew up in Butte, moved to Great Falls as a teenager, and graduated from CMR High School. She moved to Billings for college and earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She worked in children's mental health while CK Tech was getting started and joined the company full-time in 2015. Libby runs daily operations and draws on her background to build and maintain a strong team. Outside of work, she's usually with her family or out camping, boating, or being outdoors.
Meet the Crew
CK Tech is a team of eleven people who care deeply about doing good work and treating people right. Most of the crew is from Montana and came up through the trades before getting into low voltage. They value trust, clear communication, and building long-term relationships with the people who invite them into their homes and businesses.
Summer Buttram, General Manager
"I moved to Montana when I was 8 and grew up in the Roundup and Winnett area. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, fishing, archery hunting, and floating the river. I love spending time with my husband Chris, our kids, and our dogs, Jake and Duchess. I entered this industry in 2022, completely oblivious to the world of low-voltage. My priority is taking care of our customers and making sure they get a top-notch experience with the company."
Jose Carkhuff, Remote Support Specialist
"I was born and raised in Billings. I like to play video games and spend time with family. After high school I moved to Portland, Oregon to live with some family, and that's where I got into car audio and security. I did that work for seven years before a friend told me about a similar job for houses and businesses. I tried it, fell in love with the industry, and I've been doing this kind of work ever since."
David Bye, Technician
David is an installer at CK Tech with more than a decade of experience in electrical and low-voltage systems. His background covers industrial work, commercial work, HVAC controls, and fire alarm systems, which gives him a strong foundation for reliable security and video surveillance installs. David started his career in 2012 as an electrical apprentice on industrial sites in North Dakota before moving back to Billings, where he lives with his wife and three kids. His work brings code awareness, attention to detail, and a focus on systems built to last.
Laython Riley, Field Manager
Born and raised in Billings, MT.
"I've been snowboarding most of my life, and it's my favorite thing to do. When there isn't snow on the mountain, I'm on a motorcycle. My favorite part of this industry is knowing that I help keep people and their things safe. I also love audio and video projects because every job is custom, which lets me put my own touch into it. It's knowledge I use in my own life too."
Tyler Henderson, Technician
"I was born in North Dakota but grew up in Montana through elementary school. I finished school in small-town Elgin, ND. In my spare time I ride my motorcycle, snowboard, and hang out with family and friends. My favorite part of this industry is working with so many different products, and watching a big project come together. CK Tech is always trying to grow as a company, and I enjoy being part of it."
Allex Nelson, Admin Assistant
"I was born and raised in Billings, Montana. I've spent my life around motorsports, mostly drag racing my '79 Foxbody Mustang and short-course off-road racing. In the last few years, wake surfing has become my number-one passion. I love all dogs, especially mine. The part of any day that brings me the most joy is adding a little bit of joy to whoever I encounter, whether they're walking into the shop, calling in, or meeting us on a job."
Austin Ahler, Technician
"I'm from Las Cruces, New Mexico. I moved to Billings in 2024 looking for a change of scenery, and I haven't looked back. I come from a landscaping background and enjoy learning new things as much as possible. Living in Montana has been great. I enjoy hiking and being on the water. I'm thankful to have an opportunity here at CK Tech, where I can develop personally and professionally while helping customers and clients across the area."
Kari Bye, Logistics Coordinator
Kari was born and raised in Billings, where she still lives with her husband, three children, and two dogs. She loves Montana year-round, from skiing during the long winters to hiking and boating during the short summers. After spending her twenties raising her family, she moved back into the workforce when her youngest started school. Kari built systems and processes for startup CEOs and helped established businesses scale, which is the same kind of organizational work she now brings to CK Tech.
Bella Nunberg, Technician
"I was born and raised in Billings. I enjoy camping and rafting with my wife and two dogs. My other hobbies include fishing, hunting, and photography and videography. After spending five years working in children's mental health, I was ready for a change of pace. CK Tech has given me that. I love that no two days are the same here, and I've enjoyed learning the full range of services and equipment we install for customers across Montana."

We're based in Billings and serve homes and businesses across Montana, Wyoming, and western North Dakota. Our regular service area includes Billings, Laurel, Red Lodge, Hardin, Sidney, Bozeman, Cody, Powell, and Williston.
